    (ANI)

Kathmandu, May 9 : Nepal government has removed the ban on mountaineering expeditions after successful relay of the Olympic torch at Mount Everest.

After Chinese Government's request the Nepalese Cabinet had banned climbing Everest beyond Camp II on April 2 to ensure safe passage for the torch.

Chinese climbers carrying the Olympic flame reached the summit yesterday.

Celebrations were marked atop Everest and in Beijing for the success when the climbers lighted the torch on the summit.

Chinese Ambassador Zheng Xianglin had expressed thanks to Nepal King Girija Prasad Koirala and his government for the "great support" and "assistance" for successful relay.

He also praised the role of Nepal Army and concerned authorities in making detailed arrangements and doing enormous work according to the Nepalnews.

In a statement, the Chinese Embassy said that in the meeting, Koirala requested the Chinese Ambassador to forward a congratulatory letter to Chinese President Hu Jintao.
